Fresh chestnuts aren’t always easy to find locally, especially if you’re looking for fresh, U.S.-grown chestnuts rather than imported nuts that may have traveled a long way before reaching the shelf.

At Valley Chestnuts, customers throughout New Jersey can order fresh, Midwest-grown Chinese chestnuts directly from the growers and have them delivered right to their door.

FRESH CHESTNUTS FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON
Fresh chestnuts have a natural place at the holiday table—roasted while they’re still warm, added to stuffing and desserts, or shared as a seasonal food gift.

We set aside part of each harvest in controlled-atmosphere storage to help preserve freshness later into the season, allowing us to ship fresh chestnuts to New Jersey customers as Thanksgiving and Christmas approach.

A NEW JERSEY CHESTNUT CONNECTION
There was a time when chestnuts were far more common in New Jersey than they are today. American chestnut trees once filled the region’s forests, dropping an abundant fall crop that was gathered for food, eaten by wildlife, and sold commercially.

In fact, New Jersey’s chestnut harvest was once large enough that railroad cars carried loads of native chestnuts to market to be sold as a holiday treat. Chestnut blight changed that landscape dramatically in the early 1900s, but we’re proud to continue the long connection between chestnuts and New Jersey by shipping fresh chestnuts to customers throughout the state today.

STORING & ENJOYING YOUR CHESTNUTS
Fresh chestnuts contain more moisture than most nuts, so proper storage makes a difference. Here's what you need to know about storing, curing, preparing, and cooking your chestnuts once they arrive.
