FRESH CHESTNUTS FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Fresh chestnuts are especially fitting during the colder months—roasted while they’re still warm, added to stuffing and other seasonal dishes, or shared as a holiday food gift.

We set aside part of each harvest in controlled-atmosphere storage to help preserve freshness later into the season, allowing us to continue shipping chestnuts as Thanksgiving and Christmas approach.

Limited quantities available.

BRINGING THE AMERICAN CHESTNUT BACK
The American chestnut was once a major part of forests throughout the Washington, D.C. region before chestnut blight nearly wiped it out in the early 1900s. But the species is still hanging on: National Park Service surveys have found hundreds of living American chestnuts in parks throughout the National Capital Region.

There are also active efforts to bring the species back. In 2024, Wolf Trap National Park planted ten American chestnut trees as part of ongoing restoration work, while surviving trees throughout the region continue to be monitored. Restoring the species to healthy, self-sustaining populations is still a long-term goal, but the work gives the D.C. area a continuing role in the American chestnut story. As Midwest chestnut growers, we appreciate being part of that broader story by shipping fresh chestnuts to customers throughout the capital region today.

ENJOYING YOUR FRESH CHESTNUTS
Fresh chestnuts contain more moisture than most nuts, so they need a little different care after they arrive. We’ve put together information on storing, curing, preparing, and cooking them for the best flavor and quality.
